Words from the Heart for Saturday May 14th, 2016
“…everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
Matthew 7:26-27 (NIV)
Not Doing God’s Word
Belief without action is not faith but foolishness. Are you putting the words of Jesus into action?
Most Canadians have likely engaged with a charity or nonprofit at some point in their lives and many engage with them daily. The charitable and nonprofit sector includes small community service organizations as well as large hospitals and universities. There are over 170,000 charitable and nonprofit organizations in Canada. 85,000 of these are registered charities (recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency). The charitable and nonprofit sector contributes an average of 8.1% of total Canadian GDP, more than the retail trade industry and close to the value of the mining, oil and gas extraction industry. Two million Canadians are employed in the charitable and nonprofit sector Over 13 million people volunteer for charities and nonprofits. Charities play an essential role in communities across Canada, providing expertise and support to every aspect of our lives.
There are few things as heartbreaking as watching the news and seeing a house collapsing into a sinkhole, or sliding over the edge of a cliff after a hard rain. The people who built the house never planned for that to happen. They likely even laid a good foundation. But when the soil gives way, there is nothing you can do. Jesus says this is what happens to those who fail to live according to the principles of the kingdom of heaven. In Matthew 7 He speaks of the wise man who built his house on the rock and the foolish man who built his house on the sand. Matthew 7:26-27 says “…everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” Those of us who love the Lord Jesus are called to live according to the principles of the kingdom of heaven. There is great wisdom in doing so and it just makes sense that to walk in obedience to the Lord would make life so much more satisfying and free from guilt and shame. But the Lord gives us the choice. And we sadly know the stories of those whose lives fell apart as they wandered from Biblical principles. Commit yourself to walking according to Biblical principles today.
These have been words from the heart.
