Words from the Heart for Saturday March 18th, 2017
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.
Philippians 2:9-10 (NIV)
At the Name of Jesus
When Jesus humbled himself to come and give his life on the cross for us, He paid the highest price. Now God has honoured Him to the highest place. The day is coming when everyone will bow and say that Jesus Christ is Lord. No one else is worthy. Let us worship Him now and willingly bow before Him.
The name “Canada” likely comes from the Huron-Iroquois word “kanata,” meaning “village” or “settlement.” In 1535, two Aboriginal youths told French explorer Jacques Cartier about the route to kanata; they were actually referring to the village of Stadacona, the site of the present-day City of Québec. Cartier then used the word “Canada” to describe not only the village, but the entire area controlled by its chief, Donnacona. The name was soon applied to a much larger area; maps in 1547 designated everything north of the St. Lawrence River as Canada. Cartier also called the St. Lawrence River the “rivière du Canada,” a name used until the early 1600s. By 1616, although the entire region was known as New France, the area along the great river of Canada and the Gulf of St. Lawrence was still called Canada.
When Jesus Christ stepped out of Glory into our world, there were actually many people with the name Jesus. It was a common Hebrew name meaning God is the Saviour. So it wasn’t surprising to Joseph when the angel appeared to him and told him that He was to be called Jesus. But the reason for the name would have been – for He will save His people from their sins. Never before had THAT promise been given. There is only One Saviour, as the name applies, and that is God. God is the Saviour. The deity of Jesus is found right within the name that He was given. Which fits what it says in Philippians 2:9-10: “Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.” Jesus is the Saviour. He came to save His people from their sins. And in this world that is what He does, and will continue to until He comes to forever establish His kingdom of justice, righteousness and peace. At that time He will be seen for who He truly is. Taking His rightful place on the throne of the universe, every knee will bow and acknowledge His power and authority. The time for His saving work will be over. It will be time for His ruling over every redeemed heart and life.
These have been words from the heart.
