Words from the Heart for Saturday June 25th, 2016

But God made the earth by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding. When he thunders, the waters in the heavens roar; he makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth. He sends lightning with the rain and brings out the wind from his storehouses.

Jeremiah 10:12-13 (NIV)

The Creator God

Standing outside during a storm can be quite terrifying. Thunder rolls, winds howl, rain crashes, clouds hurtle across the sky. But this power pales in comparison to the all-powerful God. Take a moment and marvel at the God who controls wind and waves, storms and skies.

There is a difference of one letter between how the USA was created and how Canada was. But it is a critical letter. The USA was created in a revolution. Canada was created in a resolution. The Seventy-Two Resolutions from the 1864 Quebec Conference and Charlottetown Conference laid out the framework for uniting British colonies in North America into a federation. They had been adopted by the majority of the provinces of Canada and became the basis for the London Conference of 1866, which led to the formation of the Dominion of Canada on July 1, 1867. The term dominion, based on the term used for God’s sovereignty in Psalm 72:8, was chosen to indicate Canada’s status as a self-governing colony of the British Empire, the first time it was used about a country.

I recently sat on the shore of Lake Ontario, and my mind pondered the power of our Creator God that had spoken the world into being. He is not only the Creator God, He is the Creative God. All the splendor that we see in the natural world around was first birthed in the mind of God. The Psalmist says that the heavens declare the glory of God. And he is correct. When we look at the physical world through the eyes of faith, we see the hands of God everywhere. So did Jeremiah the prophet, who writes in Jeremiah 10:12-13: “But God made the earth by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding. When he thunders, the waters in the heavens roar; he makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth. He sends lightning with the rain and brings out the wind from his storehouses.” What a beautiful picture of the power of God in creation and in governing nature. It is a greater step of faith to believe that the world around us came into being through a big bang and chance than to believe that there was an intelligent designer behind it all. When you look at the grandeur of creation and the power of nature unleashed in a sunny day or thunder storm, do you see the Creator God at work? You will, when you look at it all through the eyes of faith.

These have been words from the heart.
