Come and hear, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me.

Psalm 66:16 (NIV)

Come and Hear

There is a special conversation that those who fear the Lord can have. They will speak of the Lord’s goodness and all that He has done for them. Others may speak of doubt or disappointment but those who fear the Lord will share a good report about their faithful God. What will your conversation be today?

As we approach Canada’s 150th birthday on July 1, we continue our biographies of Canada’s Fathers of Confederation. Some of the Fathers of Confederation played a more vital role in the formation of the new Dominion than others, Sir John A. MacDonald of course, and George Etienne Cartier. And George Brown. The founder of the Globe newspaper, now the Globe and Mail, he had been an articulate voice of the reform movement in Upper Canada and played a major role in uniting the provinces that would form Canada. He never became involved in politics following Confederation, but he remained a vocal opponent of the policies of Sir John A. MacDonald and his Conservative government, and strongly promoted the western expansion of Canada. He was shot by a disgruntled former employee and died on May 9, 1880.

Sometimes you just have to praise. Sometimes, when overwhelmed with the goodness and greatness of God, praise pours forth. Every follower of Jesus has had this happen, I hope more than once in your life. I remember visiting High River, Alberta for the first time. I had arrived after dark and stayed in a little motel. In the morning, the pastor from the church I was speaking at that morning picked me up and as we turned a corner, the Rocky Mountains were right there, snow covered, majestic, powerful, and I said, “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised.” I just couldn’t hold it in. David understood this and praise pours fourth throughout the entire 66th Psalm. And David doesn’t want anyone to miss his praise. He calls people to come and hear as he shares the reasons he has for praising God. Psalm 66:16 says “Come and hear, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me.” What a simple invitation. We usually think of evangelism as something difficult. We need to have a pat presentation that we share with someone, and we’d better have answers to all their questions. David teaches us something wonderful here. He wants to share with all who will listen all that the Lord has done for him. Sharing our faith is really that simple. Share with someone today something you have to praise God for.

These have been words from the heart.
