Words from the Heart for Saturday December 2nd, 2017

The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious, but the lips of a fool shall swallow him up.

Ecclesiastes 10:12 (NKJV)

Words of a Wise Man

There is often a great lack of kindness in our conversation. Yet, words of wisdom can only be received when they are delivered in love, understanding, and with grace. We need not be defeated by our own way of speaking. Our words of wisdom will be in demand when packaged God’s way.

Listen to Words from the Heart

When my family and I moved to the US back in the late 80’s, I realized that there were some words that only Canadians use. We got our first electricity bill, and I commented to my neighbour about the low cost for hydro in north Florida. She looked totally befuddled and had no idea what hydro was. I was in a restaurant and ordered fish and chips. The server asked what kind of potatoes I wanted. She didn’t know chips were French fries.

King Solomon could surely turn a phrase. One of his most descriptive is found in Ecclesiastes 10:12, “The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious, but the lips of a fool shall swallow him up.” The words of a fool shall swallow him up. In this day of social networking, how often have we seen this happen? People post things online that lead to embarrassment at best and the loss of friends, job and freedom at worst. Their foolish words swallow them up and their lives are forever changed. On the other hand, social networking is also used to bring the word of God, or Kingdom of God principles, to others. These wise words help God’s people to grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus. And they only bring blessing to both the author and those who read them. What kind of words do you use each day? Do they bring blessing to others and mark you as wise? That ought to be the goal of every follower of Christ. Take time to think through everything you post online.

These have been words from the heart.
