Words from the Heart for Saturday August 19th, 2017

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.

Psalm 143:8 (NIV)

The Way I Should Go

When we awake in the morning we may feel the challenge of our day before us. We may even dread what awaits us. However, this verse starts us off into our day in a totally different way. We wake up to the assurance of His unfailing love. We can trust our day’s schedule to the Lord. Thank Him for this as you begin your day.

To celebrate Canada’s sesquicentennial, Via Rail offered Canadian young people, aged 12-25, or with a valid international student card, the opportunity to buy an unlimited train pass for just $150. This sounds like a magnificent idea and it turned out that Canadian youth certainly thought so. The Via Rail phone lines lit up and the Via Rail website crashed from overuse. There seemed to be some confusion when people finally did get through to a human being. Some were told that while the system was down, and tickets couldn’t be granted, they didn’t need to worry because unlimited numbers of tickets were being offered. This turned out to be fake news – in reality there were only 1867 tickets available at this price. When young people discovered this, social networks went crazy with anti-Via Rail tirades.

Most people use some sort of navigation device when they travel. A few still use a paper navigation device called a map – but most use a GPS or nav device, or software on their smartphone. None of these are perfect, however, and we’ve had heard the stories, tragic and comedic, of navigation devices giving the wrong directions. While incorrect directions seldom have long term implications, wrong directions in the spiritual realm certainly can. So we need to hear the words of the Psalmist in Psalm 143:8: “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.” The Psalmist had learned the secret of living a life that avoided so many of the pitfalls that had destroyed others – he had entrusted his life to the Lord. There is such great wisdom in doing so. Only the Creator God of the universe sees the big picture of every life on earth. We have a hard time keeping our own life straight, one day at a time. What a God we serve who not only has His eye on each one of us, but who is willing to show us how we should live our lives so we can walk daily in victory. Already today has God’s word brought you word of His unfailing love for you? Then you know you can entrust your life to Him.

These have been words from the heart.
