Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord.

Psalm 31:24 (NKJV)

Be Of Good Courage

Courage, strength, and hope are a powerful combination! Something happens on the inside when we make the deliberate choice to set our expectation on Him. And, we discover that He is the capable God described in the Word. Others have proven Him true. We will join that crowd that experience the demonstration of His goodness. What situation do you choose to commit to Him today?

Helen Harrison-Bristol was a Canadian female aviator who proved to be a pilot of great courage during the Second World War. While living in England she secretly took pilot’s lessons and received her A license in 1935. She returned to South Africa, where she had lived for a time before moving to England for her education. She became the first woman to hold a commercial pilot’s license in that country. After moving to Hamilton, Ontario she became a flying instructor, quickly becoming a test pilot and chief flying instructor. When the Second World broke out, she was accepted as the first Canadian woman ferry pilot to serve in the United Kingdom with the Air Transport Auxiliary. In 1943 she co-piloted a Mitchell bomber across the North Atlantic Ocean from Montreal, Quebec to Scotland one of the most dangerous civil roles in the war.

I enjoy reading peoples’ posts on the various social networks that I’ve joined. There are all sorts of good quotes and pithy advice from a variety of sources, some more trustworthy than others! There is no greater source of good advice, however, than the Bible. King David had learned to trust the Lord and had proven in his own life and leadership that the Lord could be trusted. When everything seemed stacked up against him, and things looked dim, time after time God came through for him. So he learned that even when things looked hopeless, he could be courageous – not because of his own strength, wisdom and prowess, but because of God’s faithful love and power. So David gives this advice in Psalm 21:24: “Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord.” The courage that David speaks about here is not because we have self-confidence. I know that there is little in me to live victoriously. What David is calling his people to is confidence in God. That is the source of courage. The mighty God of the universe marches into battle with us. Whatever you are facing today, if you are a child of God through faith in Jesus Christ, God is with you, fighting your battles for you. As you step out in faith today, He will strengthen your heart. Trust Him.
