For this command is a lamp, this teaching is a light, and correction and instruction are the way to life.

Proverbs 6:23 (NIV)

The Way to Life

We might think that it would be better if the Lord just let us have our own way. But, that is not the best way. We need the light so we won’t stumble. Correction and instruction come from a loving God. Only our enemy wants us to think that God is being hard on us. Choose today to welcome the ways of the Lord.

Did you know there is a way to drive across Canada and not have to rent a car? There are companies who are looking for safe drivers to deliver cars from on location to another. The plus is that you get a free car and you will receive enough to cover your gas costs. The downside is that once you drop the car off, you are on your own to get back home. If you plan it right, you can drive another car in the other direction.

The Bible speaks of a way that leads to death, and it is easy to follow that way. All we have to do is live according to our own passions and urges and we will be on the way to death. But the Bible also speaks of another way – a way that leads to life, both abundant and eternal. Wise King Solomon speaks of this in Proverbs 6:23: “For this command is a lamp, this teaching is a light, and correction and instruction are the way to life.” God, who created us and loves us, gives us commands and precepts, and if we live by them, the light of His grace and of His word will lead us, correct us and instruct us. Jesus told His followers that He is the Life, and when we put our trust in Him, we cross over from death to life. He becomes our Saviour and our teacher. Living by the wisdom of His word doesn’t guarantee that life will always be easy. But it does guarantee that we will experience the abundant and eternal life for which we long.
