Those children have bodies made out of flesh and blood. So Jesus became human like them in order to die for them. By doing this, he could break the power of the devil. The devil is the one who rules over the kingdom of death.
Hebrews 2:14 (NIRV)
Breaking the Power of the Devil
There are many verses given us by the Lord of the great victory that Jesus has over our enemy, the devil. The enemy holds people in bondage. Jesus’ death breaks the power of this ruler of the kingdom of death. Our enemy is no match for the power of our Lord Jesus.

When sin entered into the world with the disobedience of Adam and Eve, all of creation suffered and Satan won a major victory. From that point on, the devil was in control of every human being, each and every one being born with a sin nature. The Bible says that even when we want to do good, sin is there to trip us up. It is the greatest frustration for the man or woman who wants to live a life that honours God. The good we want to do we find impossible. Is there any hope? Thankfully the answer is an unequivocal yes! Hebrews 2:14 says “Those children have bodies made out of flesh and blood. So Jesus became human like them in order to die for them. By doing this, he could break the power of the devil. The devil is the one who rules over the kingdom of death.” Jesus knew that no matter how hard we try we can’t live a life of purity that pleases God. So if we couldn’t become like God, Jesus would become like us. Hebrews tells us that Jesus became human like us so He could die in our place. When He took the punishment that our sin requires so that God’s perfect justice could be met, He broke the power of the devil. No more does sin rule over us. Instead, Jesus empowers us to walk in victory.
