Words from the Heart for Monday January 8th, 2018
And there will be no more night; they need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.
Revelation 22:5 (NRSV)
The Lord God Shall be Their Light
The same God who commanded the light to shine and established day and night has promised a day when there will be no more night! He is preparing an eternal home for all who accept His Son as Saviour. The One who made the light will be the light among His people forever and ever.
Niagara Falls have been illuminated, at least off and on, since September 1860. But it wasn’t until 1925 that the illumination of the Falls became permanent. That year the Niagara Falls Illumination Board was formed, with a budget of $28,000. Twenty-four new lights were mounted in a row on the Ontario Power Company water surge tank allowing both the American Falls and Horseshoe Falls to be lit. These lights were originally built to search the sky for enemy aircraft over Britain during World War I.
The Bible is an amazing book. Written by dozens of people over a period of centuries, its consistency is nothing short of amazing. It weaves redemption throughout its pages, slowly revealing God’s love and plan to draw men and women back into relationship with Him following the entrance of sin into His creation. Between the words of Moses in the first chapter of Genesis and the words of John in the 22nd chapter of Revelation are some four millennia but if you look carefully at the first three chapters of Genesis and the final three chapters of Revelation you will see the same themes. Over the past few days we have been looking at the first verses of the BIble where God creates light even before He creates the sun, moon and stars. He is the light that shines into the early hours of creation. At the end of time He will once again have that same role. Revelation 22:5 says, “And there will be no more night; they need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.”
These have been words from the heart.
