With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.

Psalm 18:29 (NIV)

Scaling A Wall

In this powerful Psalm we read the celebration of victory by the Warrior King David. We can also know victory through the power of our God. Left on our own we would be overcome. With Him we can advance. We are not held back by what the enemy puts in our way. What is the major obstacle you are facing today. He is available to you to overcome it. You, too, will have a victory song.

Each spring the Niagara Parks Commission conducts rock scaling operations along the wall of the Niagara Gorge on the Canadian side of the Horseshoe Falls. Loose rocks and debris that have built up over the winter months are gathered. If not removed, these rocks could pose a concern to the safe operations and opening of the lower observation deck of the Journey Behind the Falls attraction. During these operations, Commission staff are lowered in a cage over the decorative parapet wall into the Niagara Gorge. A large crane operating from the top of the gorge wall then carries the workers across the face of the wall, some 13 stories high over the Falls basin. Rock scaling also takes place above the lower roadway access point of the new zipline attraction, as well as at the White Water Walk attraction.

God is our protector, our safety, our Saviour. He redeems us from sin, but also saves us from drowning in our sin and the challenges of life. This is all great news. But there is more. God not only hides us, but He empowers us to stand up against anything or anyone who would come against us because we follow Jesus Christ. Jesus said that He will build His church and the gates of hell will not prevail. Gates are defensive, designed to keep people in and prevent anyone from entering. The gates of hell are holding in everyone who is under the control of the enemy of our souls. Jesus came to fling open the gates and set free all who put their faith and trust in Him. David uses another analogy but it is just as powerful. He speaks of scaling a wall. Psalm 18:29 says “With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.” There are battles that we have to fight in our lives – battles against powers and principalities in the spiritual realm that want to defeat us and cause us to slip spiritually. There are walls that are imprisoning loved ones in their sin and shame. God empowers us to live a life of victory, to scale the walls and open the gate of hell to set free those who are captive. Advance in Jesus’ name today.
