God said, “Let the seas be filled with living things. Let birds fly above the earth across the huge space of the sky.”

Genesis 1:20 (NIRV)

Fish and Birds

There is a vast ocean community that lives under the surface of the water. These living things are remarkable in shape and colour. These marvelous marine creatures are basically hidden from our eyes but are objects of beauty and wonder. And, among the birds are amazing patterns of migration. They fly the highways of the sky and find their way to the same location each season. The seas and sky speak of an awesome Creator!

The Greenland shark eats its own kind, lives at depths of 4,000 metres and can grow to nearly seven metres in length. The oldest living vertebrate on the planet, they live 400 years or longer and reach puberty around the age of 150. Occasionally captured as bycatch by Atlantic Canadian fishers, one marine biologist said, “I call them the true Canadian shark because they are cold-loving and as far as we know they’re only found in Arctic and adjacent waters.”

The creation story in the book of Genesis is progressive and logical. God creates the sun to provide energy and life. Then He creates plants that take the photons of the sun and turn it into carbohydrates and oxygen. These are necessary for all of life. Once these are in place, Genesis 1:20 tells us the next step: “God said, “Let the seas be filled with living things. Let birds fly above the earth across the huge space of the sky.” With the water in place and the oxygen in the atmosphere, God beings to create living things. Fish fill the waters and birds fill the air. I love how logical our God is. His plan for the creation of the world makes sense. He put everything in place in perfect order. If He is able to do so in the macro – in the entire universe – putting your life in order is not a challenge for Him at all. The Bible says that God loves you. He cares for you as a loving parent. You can trust Him to put your life in order. Have you invited Him to, by putting your faith in Jesus Christ?

These have been words from the heart.
