Words from the Heart for Monday December 4th, 2017

I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.

Genesis 3:15 (NRSV)

Enmity

From the very time that man had sinned, the Lord made the promise that He would provide a Saviour. The penalty for the sin was real. The provision of the Lord was also real. The day would come when the very person that the enemy had tempted and deceived would be used of the Lord to bring the defeat of the enemy. What a wonderful salvation the Lord planned.

You may be surprised that there are still a few minor boundary disputes between the US and Canada. For example, Machias Seal Island and North Rock is considered by both Maine and New Brunswick to be their territory. It is located in what is known as the “Grey Zone” and is occupied by a Canadian lighthouse but claimed by the United States and visited by U.S. tour boats. The area is patrolled by the Canadian Coast Guard.

I know people who have quit watching the news because they find it too depressing. In our day of the 24 hour news channel, we are made aware more than at any time in the past of the extent of evil in our world today. The world shakes its head and wonders why all of this happening. The Bible begins with the answer. In Genesis 3:15 we read “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.” These of the words of God to the serpent who tempted Eve. It was through the serpent, Satan, that sin entered into the human condition. And the fall of men and women from their position of intimacy of God has led to every broken life and relationship in our world today. But God had a plan and in this verse we see the promise of a Redeemer who would come. The offspring here is Jesus and on the cross, Satan would bite his heel. But on Resurrection Day, Jesus would crush the head of Satan and salvation was guaranteed. What a great promise – God would provide a Savior for you.

These have been words from the heart.
