For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.

James 1:3 (NLT)/h4>
Faith Tested

If life was easy, there would be no depth. But trials come our way to build spiritual muscle. How is your spiritual muscle developing?

Pregnant women and those planning a pregnancy should avoid travel to south Florida because of Zika virus, Canadian health officials announced in August. The Public Health Agency of Canada recommends that pregnant women and those planning a pregnancy “”avoid travel to the area in south Florida and countries with reported mosquito-borne Zika virus,”” and “All travelers should protect themselves from mosquito bites.”” The announcement was made after the Florida government said it had identified 10 more cases of Zika caused by the bite of local mosquitoes, bringing the total to 14. Pregnant women who travelled to the affected area of Florida on or after June 15 should talk to their health-care provider about Zika testing said Dr. Gregory Taylor, Canada’s chief public health officer. The travel advisory is limited to a small area in Miami, Florida.

I work hard at keeping in shape, but it never comes easily. I do love to get on my bike and get a good workout cycling the country roads near my home in rural Ontario. But just about every other form of exercise is torture. But I do it in order to stay healthy and keep my muscles from becoming like jelly-fish. Spiritually, God wants strong, vibrant, active faith. And in order for that to happen we need to exercise that faith. James 1:3 puts it this way: “For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.” God doesn’t want spiritual couch potatoes. So He sends things, or allows things, that will force us to grow spiritually. Flabby faith is not God’s best for His people. He wants us in shape. It is in the trials that our spiritual muscles are tested and we become stronger. God does recognize that there is a need for rest and recuperation after a challenging spiritual exercise, so He does grant us times of ease. But don’t sit back and expect that just because you are a follower of Jesus Christ, life will be an endless bowl of cherries. Challenges are going to come your way, because God loves you and wants you to spiritually strong and healthy. If you are facing challenges right now, it’s because God wants to give you a good workout. Allow these times to grow your spiritual muscles.
