Words from the Heart for Friday November 18th, 2016
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)
The Fruit of the Spirit
If our interactions with others are marked by the fruit of the Spirit, division, quarrelling, and conflict would diminish. How are you growing in your relationships? How is the Spirit evident in your speech and actions?
The unique blend of climate, geography and soils found in certain areas of Ontario allow producers to grow a wide variety of top quality fruits. In addition to apples and peaches, Ontario fruit growers grow grapes, pears, nectarines, apricots, plums, prunes, cherries, raspberries, strawberries and blueberries. Many newer and unusual crops like northern kiwi and Saskatoons can be found in limited quantities. Ontario’s commercial fruit producers grow more than 450,900 tonnes of fruit annually on 25,294 ha of land. The total farm gate value is over $225 million. The major apple-producing areas in Ontario are spread along the shores of Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. These large, deep bodies of water are the main reason that apples are one of Ontario’s biggest and most diverse fruit crops.
I live in a part of the country where fruit trees are plentiful. I love driving through the orchards during fruit season and seeing the trees loaded with cherries, peaches, apricots, apples and pears. It is a sign that the trees and the ground in which they are planted are healthy. The blossoms survived the spring, and the rain and sun had done their job. The Bible uses this picture to describe the Christian life. Galatians 5:22-23 says this “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” God is the producer of the fruit. He works in the lives of His children by His Holy Spirit to produce the fruit that proves the Holy Spirit dwells in us. A healthy apple tree will produce apples. A healthy Christian will produce the fruit of the Spirit. None of this fruit can be produced without the infilling of the Holy Spirit. The unredeemed soul produces things like immorality, idolatry, hatred, discord, jealousy, rage, selfish ambition and a myriad of other sins. These are the fruit of the sinful nature. Jesus changes everything. He works in our lives to produce the fruit that is natural for those who have been grafted into Jesus Christ by faith. They rise from His life in us. What is the fruit that is being produced in your life? What does it say about Jesus’ life in you?
These have been words from the heart.
