Words from the Heart for Friday May 13th, 2016
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
Matthew 7:24-25 (NIV)
Doing God’s Word
Knowledge put into action is the foundation for a life that is strengthened to handle storms and trials. In a world full of change, what values are you building your life upon?
Tripadvisor has become the go to place for reviews on travel destinations, hotel, car rentals – everything you would need to know to prepare for a trip. They have listed the ten most popular places to visit in Canada. There are really no surprises on the list, but some of the places are not as well-known as others. For example, number 5 is Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal, followed by the Peak 2 Peak Gondola at Whistler, Moraine Lake in Alberta and the Vancouver Seawall. The top four are no surprise at all. You would expect Butchart Gardens in Victoria to be on the list, and it is – at number 4. The top three could be in any order, but Tripadvisor has #3 Old Quebec, #2 Stanley Park in Vancouver and #1 Niagara Falls. Do you agree?
If you are building a house, and you want it to stand the test of time, be sure to get the footings right. You can build the best house in the world, but if it doesn’t have a solid foundation, it will not be safe and it will not stand long. Jesus used this as an illustration of how we need to build our spiritual house. He says in Matthew 7:24-25: “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” The foundation of a Christian’s life is obedience to Jesus Christ and His teachings. Jesus gives us a great promise here. If we listen to His word and then put it into practice, we will have a spiritual house that will stand strong into eternity. Over and over the Bible stresses that we are not be simply hearers of the word, but doers. We can have the knowledge about Jesus, and be aware of how He calls us to live, but if we don’t do what He says, the principles of the kingdom of heaven that are the foundation of the Christian faith will have no effect. Today, live Biblically, and even if storms come, you will stand victorious.
These have been words from the heart.
