Words from the Heart for Friday March 16th, 2018

I want to know Christ better. Yes, I want to know the power that raised him from the dead. I want to join him in his sufferings. I want to become like him by sharing in his death.

Philippians 3:10 (NIRV)

By Sharing in His Death

The Lord is stirring a great desire within you to know Him better. We don’t want to just know about Him. We want to know Him! Receive His strength by His Spirit to yield even more of your heart to Jesus. He will never disappoint us but will always draw us nearer to Himself.

The death of bricks and mortar retail stores may be greatly exaggerated, according to results of a new study. A survey of 5,000 Canadian consumers found that bricks-and-mortar stores still capture most of the retail sales. The study showed that consumers prefer the physical retail store experience because it offers instant gratification with the ability to browse, compare prices, read flyers, touch product, and purchase. The study did find that online shopping is gaining ground, particularly with younger shoppers.

I can’t imagine what it must have been like for the followers of Jesus to watch Him go through all He did during His last couple of days on earth. Besides the injustice of the kangaroo court that found this sinless one guilty, there was the physical pain and suffering that must have broken the hearts of those who loved Him best. Many of His closest followers simply ran away, fearing for their own safety. How things changed after the Holy Spirit took hold of their lives. Paul, who came to Jesus after Jesus had gone back to heaven, would write this in Philippians 3:10: “I want to know Christ better. Yes, I want to know the power that raised him from the dead. I want to join him in his sufferings. I want to become like him by sharing in his death.” I can easily say AMEN to the first two statements of Paul here. I want to know Christ better. And I certainly want to experience resurrection power. What Christian doesn’t? But it is much more challenging to declare that I want to join Him in His sufferings unto death. May the Lord give us all that we desire.

These have been words from the heart.
