Words from the Heart for Friday March 10th, 2017
It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’
Luke 24:47 (NLT)
Forgiveness of Sins
The suffering of Jesus on the cross and the miracle of the empty grave would become the message of the Gospel to be proclaimed to all nations. This is for everyone. Have you shared this Good News yet this week? People are waiting and needing to hear.
Most Canadians who have recently graduated from University or College are carrying a significant amount of student loan debt. The average is about $28,000. There is a bit of good news for them. Most provinces have a student loan forgiveness program, for publicly funded student loans. As well, every province has a repayment assistance program for those who are finding it challenging to pay off their loans. The federal government offers the Canada Repayment Assistance Plan which reduces the amount a person has to pay each month or eliminates it altogether. For recent graduates in medicine or nursing who are willing to go to remote or underserved communities, there is significant loan forgiveness available – $40,000 over five years for doctors and $20,000 for nurses over that same period of time.
Jesus was alive! Following His death and resurrection the New Testament records eleven times that Jesus appeared to His followers. The bodily resurrection of Jesus is central to the Christian faith – without it, Paul says, we are of all men most miserable. But Jesus did rise from the grave and the results have transformed lives, communities and nations. Jesus spoke to a group of disciples He had appeared to as they walked along the road to Emmaus. Luke 24:47 records the words of Jesus this way: “It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.” Because Jesus was alive, the message of the Gospel would be carried to the ends of the earth. The proclamation of Jesus’ power to forgive sins and redeem lives would go forth from Jerusalem to all nations. The reason for Jesus coming did not end with His resurrection. In fact, this was just the beginning. Because He is alive, millions of people would live as well, as His resurrection power is unleashed in their lives. There is an important phrase that Jesus uses here: in the authority of His name. When we share the good news of forgiveness and the new life that Jesus offers, we do so in the authority of His name, the name of Jesus by which we are saved, healed, restored and forgiven.
These have been words from the heart.
