Words from the Heart for Friday June 3rd, 2016

God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

Genesis 1:28 (NIV)

Be Fruitful

From the beginning, God’s intention was to have His glory cover the earth. Made in His image, we reflect that glory. How do the people around you reflect the image of God?

Ontario apple growers average 13.7 million bushels, with McIntosh apples being 27% of the crop. The major apple-producing areas in Ontario are spread along the shores of Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. These large, deep bodies of water are the main reason that apples are one of Ontario’s biggest and most diverse fruit crops. The water temperature of the lakes changes slowly and causes the air temperatures of the adjacent shore to change slowly as well. As a result, late spring frosts and early fall frosts are buffered and the growing season is extended. The Niagara Escarpment plays a role in creating good apple-growing conditions in many areas. The towering escarpment provides a protective boundary, confining the moderate air temperatures influenced by the lakes in a small, productive area. In addition, there are a wide variety of fertile soils in these areas.

As God creates the world He is aware of what the future holds. He knows that sin will mar His beautiful creation and will sever His relationship with the highest of His creation – men and women. He knows that people will stray from Him and will live lives under the perverse guidance of the Enemy of their souls leading to broken lives and relationships. He knows that He will have to pay a great price on the painful cross in order to redeem us. Our sin and willfulness will cause Him great pain. In spite of all of this, God gives this command in Genesis 1:28: “God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” God commands Adam and Eve to have children and populate the planet. They couldn’t possibly know the implication of this – thousands of people groups speaking a myriad of languages, and developing a wonderful variety of cultures. Almost 7 billion people alive on the planet today in over 200 countries and God knows each of us and loves us. He has a plan for each of us that starts with forgiving us and establishing us in a relationship with Him by repentance and faith. Do you know Him? Is He working His plan out for your life?
