Words from the Heart for Friday July 14th, 2017

Your kingdom is built on what is right and fair. Your faithful love leads the way in front of you.

Psalm 89:14 (NIRV)

Your Kingdom

Sometimes we hear reports of leaders who are found out to be doing wrong things. Decisions are made that are not right or fair. There is One we can choose to follow who has faithful love. Let Him go out in front of you today to lead the way.

Listen to Words from the Heart

If Sir John A MacDonald had his way, our country would not be the Dominion of Canada, but the Kingdom of Canada. During the Charlottetown Conference of 1864, MacDonald talked of “founding a great British monarchy.” He advocated, in the fourth Canadian draft of the British North America Act, the name “Kingdom of Canada,” and the text said “The word ‘Parliament’ shall mean the Legislature or Parliament of the Kingdom of Canada. The word ‘Kingdom’ shall mean and comprehend the United Provinces of Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick. The words ‘Privy Council’ shall mean such persons as may from time to time be appointed, by the Governor General, and sworn to aid and advise in the Government of the Kingdom.” Pushback came from the Colonial office in London, however, who suggested another term be used besides Kingdom.

The kingdoms of this world are far from perfect. Neither are the republics, led by duly elected presidents or self-appointed dictators. At best, human self-interest gets in the way. At worst, narcissism and sociopathy lead to suffering, war, famine, disease and genocide. Only the Kingdom of God is marked by justice and truth. Psalm 89:14 says “Your kingdom is built on what is right and fair. Your faithful love leads the way in front of you.” Where the ruler of a kingdom has complete authority, the kingdom quickly becomes marked by that ruler. More often than not, those with ultimate authority are corrupted and power hungry, abusing their people so that they can build up their own portfolios and become unseemly wealthy. There is no recourse to injustice and nothing is ever fair. But the Psalmist had sensed something altogether different in the Kingdom of God. This kingdom is built on justice. God doesn’t miss a thing. His kingdom is built on what is right and fair. That can only happen because the Lord God knows everything that happens and even more importantly, understands what’s in the heart of each person. And God leads in love. There is no more a benevolent leader than the King of kings and Lord of lords. If you are His child by faith in Jesus Christ, you can count on Him ruling your life with faithful love, fairness and justice.

These have been words from the heart.
