Words from the Heart for Friday January 26th, 2018
And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures of every kind: cattle and creeping things and wild animals of the earth of every kind.” And it was so.
Genesis 1:24 (NRSV)
On the Earth
It has taken the science world years to measure and organize all the “families of animals” that came into being at the statement of the word of the Lord at creation. “Let there be…” has resulted in such quantity and such variety. Creation by the power of our God really is a miracle. His word carries power and produces! The word of the Lord has that same power today.
Some of Canada’s most endearing symbols, including beaver, moose, bear and wolves, are mammals. There are 195 species of mammals here in Canada. The smallest is the pygmy shrew. It is only 5 cm long, including a 2 cm long tail. The largest mammal in Canada is the polar bear, which can grow to weigh as much as 680 kg. The most endangered mammal in Canada is the little Vancouver Island marmot. There are only some 300 of these rodents living in the wild.
God had a very clear plan in the creation of the world. He gets everything ready first – oceans and land is created and prepared. He fills the waters with living things and fills the air with birds. Then He creates the animals that will fill the earth. Genesis 1:24 puts it this way: “And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures of every kind: cattle and creeping things and wild animals of the earth of every kind.” And it was so.” I love the power of God’s word here. As usual, He simply speaks things into being. It all sounds so easy – He says “let” and it was so. As simple as that God filled with earth with living creatures of every kind. There were animals that would be domesticated like cattle and those that would never be domesticated. There would be those animals that would crawl on the ground and those wild animals that would rule the jungles and forests of the planet. If God’s plan for the creation of the world is so detailed, how easily can He put into place His perfect plan for your life.
These have been words from the heart.
