Words from the Heart for Friday February 17, 2017
Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow.
Psalm 25:4 (NLT)
Show Me The Right Path
This request to the Lord is not just for young people needing to make decisions about careers! At every age we can inquire of the Lord for His direction. Once again we are reminded that He is not distant from us. He is all-knowing and is the best One to “point out” the road for us. He will faithfully direct us as we commit to follow Him.
Southern New Brunswick nurtures a rare gem – one of North America’s last remaining coastal wilderness areas between Labrador and Florida. Hidden for many years, this unspoiled retreat is now open for hikers and cyclists to explore and according to a recent article on Reader’s Digest Canadian website, it is certainly one of the 10 best hikes in Canada. Situated just outside of St. Martins and less than an hour’s drive from Saint John, the Fundy Trail unlocks 16 km of seaside beauty. The winding trails – perfect for hikers or cyclists – lead to less travelled paths and stairways that divulge sandy beaches, concealed waterfalls and vertigo-inducing cliffs. Get a unique perspective of the Bay of Fundy’s tides – the world’s highest – and keep your eyes peeled for Right Whales and sea birds.
In this day of GPS, we have all heard stories of people who followed blindly the directions of their navigation system and ended up driving into a farmer’s field or pond. While these techie gadget marvels are wonderful they are far from perfect. It has always been a challenge for people to get safely from point A to point B. If that is the case physically, it is even more so spiritually. Every day we are faced with ethical decisions that can have an impact for good or bad. Some have greater impact than other, granted, but those of us who are followers of Jesus Christ are committed to consistency in our walk with Him. So we need to pray, as David did in Psalm 25:4: “Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow.” A life of consistent purity always begins with this prayer – Lord, show me the way you would have me live. And then God will drive us to His word, the Bible, because in it He clearly lays out His plan for His people and the principles by which we are to live. The Bible also gives us the promises of God for the resources He provides to live a life that honours and pleases Him. Even before we pray “show me the right path” we need to pray “give me a desire to honour you, Lord.” When we pray these two prayers, we can count on God’s guidance and provision.
These have been words from the heart.
