Words from the Heart for Friday December 15th, 2017

Then Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.

Luke 1:38 (NRSV)

According to Your Word

What a powerful answer Mary gave! She believed the word of the Lord. She simply said “yes” to Him. She could have argued that she was too young. She could have presented her list of doubts and fears. Instead she said “yes.” Her “yes” was multiplied to bring blessing to people of all time. Don’t think your “yes” to the Lord doesn’t matter! He will fulfill His plans in your life.

Listen to Words from the Heart

Canada is a nation of regions. And it seems that each region has some words and terms that are unique to that part of the country. For example, a matrimonial cake has nothing to do with a wedding. If you are from western Canada you know that. A matrimonial cake is simply another term for a date square or tart. And if you are speaking to a Newfoundlander and they ask, “whaddya at?” just tell them what you are doing at the moment.

God knows your heart and mine. He knows whether or not we are willing to accept his plan for our lives. There is no place more uncomfortable for a follower of Jesus than just outside the centre of His will for our lives. When I was a young man, a pastor preached a message on the Lordship of Jesus in the life of His followers, and I responded by telling the Lord that He would never hear a “no” from me. What a journey He has taken me on since then. He has a plan for your life too, and He needs to know that you will never say no. There is a great lesson for us in the response of Mary to the news that she was going to be the mother of the Messiah, Jesus. Luke 1:38 records it: “Then Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.” I love her simple statement – let it be with me according to your word. Can the Lord count on you to respond as readily when He calls you?

These have been words from the heart.
