Words from the Heart for Friday August 18th, 2017
How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!
Psalm 139:17 (NKJV)
It really is a marvelous miracle to have a God like yours! You could not possibly list all of the times that He thinks about you! Even if you could, the list would be endless! Loneliness is a very hurtful way to feel. Many people long to connect with others. As children of the Lord we can be assured that we are never without the tender care of our loving Lord.
Canada produces a staggering number of precious and semi-precious gems. In fact, with the exception of Prince Edward Island, every province and territory in the country produces some kind of gemstone. The discovery of diamonds in the Northwest Territories and the subsequent development of the Ekati and Diavik diamond mines has put Canada on the map as a major gemstone producer. Prior to these developments, Canada was generally regarded as a nation largely devoid of gemstones, with jade being the only significant exception. Recent discoveries of sapphire, emerald, opal, garnet and tourmaline have received media attention, however, and have added to the overall increase in awareness and interest in Canadian gemstones. Diamonds are now mined in Saskatchewan, Quebec, Ontario, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. New Brunswick is home to one semi-precious gem – Topaz.
Human beings are often proud of how intelligent they are. In this day of social media, everybody has an opinion and there is no shortage of people expressing their opinion – often about things they know nothing about. In this postmodern world many deny that there is any ultimate truth and what you believe to be true is true for you. The Bible teaches something altogether different. It declares that there is a God who is truth, and Jesus declared “I am the way, the truth and the life.” Because there is a God who is truth, all that he says can be trusted. The Psalmist alludes to this in Psalm 139:17 writes “How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!” When Jesus becomes real to us through faith, we begin to look to Him for truth. We want to know what He thinks, and we look to His word for guidance on a daily basis. The Bible is God’s word, and we can trust what it says because He who is truth inspired those who wrote. The Psalmist recognized that it was the Lord who had been directing him as he wrote the Psalms. He loved the thoughts that God expressed and he recognized that together – the sum of them – is something wonderful. And they are. If you belong to Jesus Christ by faith, take time to read His word and you will find the wisdom you need for today.
These have been words from the heart.
