Words from the Heart for Friday August 12th, 2016
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
1 Peter 1:3 (NIV)
The New Birth
When you trust Christ to forgive your sins and bring you to God, you are born into a new family, raised to spiritual life, and are given hope for each day because death has been defeated. Praise God for each one of these good gifts!
Back in 2013, a report from the international aid organization Save the Children reported that Canada has a surprisingly and disconcertingly high number of children who die on their first day of life. A report from international aid organization Save the Children assessed infant mortality data from 176 countries worldwide, focusing specifically on how many newborns are able to survive beyond their first day out of the womb. The report said Canada had the second-highest rate of first-day infant mortality in the industrialized world, with roughly 900 babies — or 2.4 per 1,000 births — ending in early tragedy. Canada’s infant mortality rate — or number of babies who die within their first year of life — has averaged around five per 1,000 births for the past decade. The number is driven higher by the mortality rate for aboriginal infants.
The Christian life is far more than just becoming moral. The human condition demands complete transformation. The Bible tells us that we were dead in our transgressions and sins. You can dress up a dead person in their best clothes, but they are still dead. Only resurrection can bring them back to life. The heart of the Christian faith is a new birth – a complete transformation from the heart out. 1 Peter 1:3 puts it this way: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” When Jesus Christ rose from the dead, resurrection power was unleashed into the heart of every person who puts their faith and trust in Him. We are given a whole new heart and everything about us changes. The way we view life and the way we live and love is transformed from self-focused to others. Our passions change from the things of the flesh to the things of the spirit. Our desire becomes to do the will of God. And it all began when Jesus Christ rose from the dead. Because He did we can experience the total new life that is described as the new birth. The old life is gone as the new life has come. Live today in the newness of life that Jesus has brought.
These have been words from the heart.
