Words from the Heart for Friday April 21st, 2017
My future is in your hands… How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you.
Psalm 31:15,19 (NLT)
How Great is the Goodness
There is great courage and security in committing our future into the capable hands of the Lord. We can do so with confidence. We can commit every day to Him in expectation of His goodness. The Lord has things stored up and waiting for those who dare to fear Him and put Him first. This chapter of our Bible is full of promises of our God’s faithfulness. Make those promises your very own.
There is no doubt that one of Canada’s national symbols is maple syrup. This source of this delicious sweet liquid is, after all, the tree that bears the leaf on our flag. Health benefits of pure Canadian maple syrup are far more comprehensive than many realize. The only product in our diet coming directly from a plant’s sap, this natural sweetener features over 63 antioxidants that can help delay or prevent diseases caused by free radicals, such as cancer or diabetes. In addition, maple syrup features high levels of zinc and manganese, keeping the heart healthy and boosting the immune system. Maple syrup has the same beneficial classes of antioxidant compounds found in berries, tomatoes, tea, whole wheat and flax seed. An increasing number of health-conscious consumers are bypassing other sweeteners in favor of maple syrup.
The pagan gods of the people that surrounded Israel in her early years were frightening. They demanded sacrifices be made that sometimes included even innocent children. There was no hope in this life and certainly no hope for eternity. Life was a constant attempt to appease these gods in order to lessen their anger and preserve life. What a brutal existence, that left people with no hope. But the God of the people of Israel, the One true God, is so different. King David had trusted Him through some of the most challenging times and had always found Him to be faithful. In Psalm 31:15,19 David writes “My future is in your hands… How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you.” Not only did David not have to try to appease the Lord, but he had learned that he could entrust his future into His hands. The God of Israel, whom he had come to know by faith, had proven over and over again that He loved David and had the best plans for him moving forward. There is no fear here. Just absolute confidence that the Lord had good things ready for David to experience. Those of us who have experienced the Lord Jesus know this to be true in an even more profound way. Through faith we have experienced His saving grace and so we are confident that He has good things stored up for us in the future.
These have been words from the heart.
