Words from the Heart for Wednesday September 8th, 2021
Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.
Deuteronomy 31:8 (NLT)
There are a number of abandoned communities in Canada. For example, Bender Hamlet, Manitoba was a village founded in 1903 as the province’s first Jewish farming colony. It was abandoned in 1927. According to The Canadian Encyclopedia, Tungsten, Northwest Territories was once home to the country’s largest mine producing — you guessed it — tungsten. The mine was built in 1960 just outside Nahanni National Park Reserve, one of the most beautiful places in Canada. However, the town was abandoned in 1986.
As we have lived through the pandemic, some have had a more challenging time than others. This has been particularly so for seniors who live in retirement and long-term care homes not allowed to have any visitors. Loneliness has been overwhelming for many. We are not meant to live in isolation. God knew that, and so early on He gave this promise to His people in Deuteronomy 31:8: “Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.” It is so easy in life to be discouraged, to fear for the future. God gave to His people the best promise He could give – the promise of His abiding presence. He gives us that same promise. The Holy Spirit takes up residence in everyone who confesses Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. He draws close to all who call out to Him. It doesn’t matter where you are right now, or what your circumstances are. The God who redeemed you and who loves you with an everlasting love is with you. Right now. Invite Him to reveal His presence to you.
These have been words from the heart.
