The Shelter of the Most High

ShelterSafe.ca is an online resource to help women and their children seeking safety from violence and abuse. The website includes a clickable map that serves as a fast resource to connect women with the nearest shelter that can offer safety, hope and support and provides a toll- free 24-hour telephone number. The objective is to ensure that women can seek safety when they need it and get the services they need as quickly as possible.

I was in school when the Cold War was in high gear, and my parents turned a fruit cellar into a bomb shelter, just in case the Soviets decided to drop an atomic bomb on Thunder Bay. The shelter held a year’s supply of evaporated milk (yuck) and canned goods, and a crystal radio. We would occasionally do a fire drill and rush downstairs to the shelter, locking the door behind us. Looking back on it now, I realize how useless it would have been if we’d had a direct hit, but it still gave us a sense of security. I later learned that God invites us to a spiritual bomb shelter. King David wrote this in Psalm 91:1: “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” Life can be far from easy. Particularly in this day of pandemic. God invites us to run to Him. He is a shelter from the craziness that can so easily happen in this world. When we place our lives under His control, no matter what happens to us and around us, His peace will surround us and fill our lives. Are you dwelling in the shelter of the Most High God?

These have been words from the heart.
