Words from the Heart for Wednesday October 9th, 2019
So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.”
Zechariah 4:6 (NIV)
By My Spirit
Back in 2017, the Canadian Mint introduced Canada’s most affordable silver coin, called the Spirit of Canada. The coin contains some of the iconic scenes of Canada. These include the agricultural landscape of the Prairies; the Rocky Mountains that once made the land seem unfathomable; and the Arctic emblems of “the True North strong and free.” According to the Royal Canadian Mint: “Each of these visual elements carries deep meaning; when combined, they convey the soaring spirit of a nation, and inspire everlasting pride among the diverse people who call Canada ‘home.’”
The kingdoms of this world make their place in the world through power – whether it is military, economic or cultural. It is all about how one country can influence another, or many. In our day, the influence of China and India, for example is growing while the influence nations of North America and Europe is waning. It has always been this way throughout the history of the world. But there is one kingdom that stands in opposition to this kind of power. Zechariah 4:6 says, “So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.” As usual, the principles of the Kingdom of God stand in opposition to the principles of the world. The Kingdom of God is under the authority of the Spirit of God and He gives this Kingdom its authority. He is, after all, the one who takes up residence in the life of all who have been redeemed by Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection, empowering the citizens of the Kingdom to live according to the principles of their Kingdom and their King.
These have been words from the heart.
