Words from the Heart for Wednesday October 6th, 2021
The path of the righteous is level; you, the Upright One, make the way of the righteous smooth.
Isaiah 26:7 (NIV)
Mention prairies to Canadians and we naturally think of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. But Ontario has prairies as well. In the very SW corner of Ontario you will find the remnants of prairie. In 1791 the prairies of southwestern Ontario were still largely intact. At that time, Patrick McNiff wrote about Kent County bordering Lake St. Clair and the Thames River: “Extensive natural meadows are dry in most places with a thin black soil…These meadows are from four to six miles in depth…and to the north of the river, the meadows are much wider”
Life can be difficult. I don’t have to tell you that. You might be having one of those challenging days today. You feel like you’ve been climbing uphill all day, and you’re exhausted. You might be asking “when will this end?” If you are a follower of Jesus, I have a great promise for you. The prophet wrote this in Isaiah 26:7: “The path of the righteous is level; you, the Upright One, make the way of the righteous smooth.” Rough times don’t last forever, and God has promised to smooth out the path for the righteous. How does He do this? As we keep our eyes on Jesus, we are reminded that He is with us through all that life gives us. We find His peace in the midst of the storm. Like He was with the disciples in the midst of the Galilean storm, so Jesus is with us in our storms as well. You can trust Him in this. Isaiah didn’t write this in easy times. When the challenges came for him, he spoke with confidence that the Upright One would make his way smooth. Pray that too.
These have been words from the heart.
