So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Aboriginal rights are collective rights which flow from Aboriginal peoples’ continued use and occupation of certain areas and are upheld by the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. They are inherent rights which Aboriginal peoples have practiced and enjoyed since before European contact. Although these specific rights may vary between Aboriginal groups, in general, they include rights to the land, rights to subsistence resources and activities, the right to self-determination and self-government, and the right to practice one’s own culture and customs including language and religion.

Everybody needs to feel that they have somebody on their side. We can put on a good front, and look strong to others, but when life gets tough and we are facing challenges that seem overwhelming, we long for somebody to come alongside us to uphold us and stand with us. One of the best blessings is to hear someone say to us, “don’t worry, I’ve got your back.” If that is your longing right now, I have great news for you. God tells you that He has your back. Isaiah 41:10 says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” What a wonderful promise from our God who has all power and authority. He has your back. He will uphold you. When God mentions His right hand, He is speaking about His authority, and He has eternal and infinite authority. Whatever you are facing today, remember that God has your back – He cares about you and has full authority over whatever challenges are before you.

These have been words from the heart.
