Words from the Heart for Wednesday October 13th, 2021
As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater.
Isaiah 55:10 (NIV)
Watering the Earth
The Atlantic Provinces are wetter than the provinces of Central Canada. Yearly precipitation, most of which is cyclonic in origin, exceeds 1,250 mm in places and is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year. There are few thunderstorms, and the low Appalachian Mountains produce only a little mountain-caused rainfall. In general, the rainfall on Canada’s east coast is less than that on the west coast because the prevailing wind is offshore. Humid air masses from the Pacific cause enormous quantities of mountain-caused rain to fall on the west coast.
The weather this past summer divided the North American continent in two. The west was dry as dust, and some parts of the east saw twice as much rain as normal. Water is essential to life. So, it isn’t surprising that God often speaks about water in the Bible. In Isaiah 55:10 He speaks of the power of His Word when He says, “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes forth from my mouth.” When God speaks, things happen. Just as rain and snow water the ground so that it produces life, so God’s Word waters the human heart so that it produces spiritual fruit. It brings life and refreshment to the soul. We have seen that happen in so many lives around the world. Those without hope find hope as they read the Bible. Those without a future find eternal life through Jesus Christ. Take time today to read God’s Word – it will bring life and nourishment to your soul.
