By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me—a prayer to the God of my life.
Psalm 42:8 NIV

At the other end of the year, the sun will rise in Pond Inlet at 12:29 in the morning on May 5, 2023 and will not set until August 7, when it will sink below the horizon at 12:59 in the morning for just 38 minutes.

Canadians understand the rhythms of the year when it comes to the length of day and night. This time of year, no matter where you are in our country, the hours of daylight is noticeably less than just a few weeks ago. The good news is that while the hours of daylight may change, the God who reigns over day and night never changes. King David writes this in Psalm 42:8: “By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me – a prayer to the God of my life.” David knew that the Lord was with him – in the day and in the night. When his life was sunny and all was going well, David understood that the Lord was directing his love towards him. When life was dark and night had descended, God had been with David – even then David had a song in his heart. It is so in your life as well. Whether these are good days or challenging, you can count on God’s presence with you, loving you and putting a song in your heart. The God who never slumbers or sleeps is with you – always.
These have been words from the heart.
