Words from the Heart for Wednesday November 25th, 2020

Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves… and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.

Ephesians 4:14-15 (NIV)

We Will Grow

According to an article on the narcity.com website, if you grew up in Canada, you had to deal with some unique things. For example, in geography class you had to try to squeeze the word “Saskatchewan” into a tiny space. You had to draw the Canadian flag without messing up the maple leaf. You had a huge stack of Canadian Tire money but it only totaled $3.00. And finally, you spent all that time getting on your Halloween costume only to cover it up with a winter jacket.

I love watching my grandchildren grow up. With one exception, our granddaughter, they are all little boys, six years old and younger. It’s fun watching them go from taking their first steps, to saying their first words, to learning to read, to being able to put together Lego. Each step is one more towards maturity. We who follow Jesus are also called to become mature in our faith. What does that mean, exactly? The answer to that question is found in Ephesians 4:14-15: “Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves… and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.” In a world where everybody is able to use social media to present their own ideas, it has become even more critical that followers of Jesus be discerning in what is being taught. There have always been those who have been trying to lead Christians away from the simple truth of the Gospel. We are called to speak the truth in love.

These have been words from the heart.
