Words from the Heart for Wednesday May 8th, 2019
So the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth of Elul, in fifty-two days. When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God.
Nehemiah 6:15-16 (NIV)
With the Help of Our God
Manitoba issued a record 5,207 nominations for Canadian permanent residences in 2018, with 98% going to skilled worker candidates. Newly released numbers from the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program show that 5,119 nominations went to candidates in the Skilled Worker in Manitoba and Skilled Worker Overseas immigration streams in 2018. The remaining 88 nominations went to candidates in Manitoba’s Business Investor Stream. According to the province, 90% of immigrants are employed within their first year in Manitoba, and around the same percentage choose to stay in the province.
I will never forget standing in Jerusalem, looking up at a section of the wall that had been repaired by Nehemiah and his team of workers. We read together Nehemiah 6:15-16: “So the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth of Elul, in fifty-two days. When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God.” As I was reading that passage our Israeli tour guide’s face lit up. When I had finished reading he said, “Do you realize what today is? It is the 25th of Elul.” What a powerful moment. But not nearly as powerful an event as the completion of the rebuilding of the wall in just fifty-two days. That took the help of God Himself. The Israelites noticed that and so did all the nations surrounding Israel. When God performs a miracle everyone is impacted – even those who are not followers of Jesus. What has God done in your life that required His help? How did that impact others?
These have been words from the heart.
