Words from the Heart for Wednesday May 2nd, 2018
I am the Lord, and there is no other; besides me there is no god. I arm you, though you do not know me,so that they may know, from the rising of the sun and from the west, that there is no one besides me…
Isaiah 45:5-6 (NRSV)
There is No Other
There are other gods who claim to be superior. All those claims fall short of the One true God. He is not limited to just part of the geography of the earth. He is God from the east to the west and across the entire globe. What an awesome God we serve!
A recent immigrant from Germany, who had only lived here for three months, was asked what made Canada unique. He replied, “One of the most common facts about this country is how big it is. Spending a whole day driving and not even leaving the province is something that impresses me, and also something that is nothing special for Canadians. Amongst other things, I also think that everything is more relaxed over here. Canadians seem not to rush through the day.”
One of the great questions that postmodern atheists throw at Christians is why do we claim that our God is the only god? Most religions of the world have a god, or in some cases, millions of gods, at the center of their faith. How can we Christians claim that our God is unique? We believe this because God’s word clearly teaches that this is the case. Isaiah 45:5-6 says, “I am the Lord, and there is no other; besides me there is no god. I arm you, though you do not know me, so that they may know, from the rising of the sun and from the west, that there is no one besides me…” In the days of Isaiah, every nation and tribe had their own god. They trusted him to provide for them and to win their battles. And they were happy to keep their god as their own. But the God of the Israelites was different. He claimed that you could look from where the sun rises in the east to where it sets in the west, and find that there is only really one God, and He is it. This is the truth.
These have been words from the heart.
