But where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding dwell? No mortal comprehends its worth; it cannot be found in the land of the living.
Job 28:12-13 (NIV)
Where is Wisdom Found?
Canadian humourist Stephen Leacock once wrote, “Advertising may be described as the science of arresting the human intelligence long enough to get money from it.” Ballet dancer Karen Kain said, “Make more time for yourself; simplify, unplug, and really focus on living in the present.” Author Louise Penny said, “It’s difficult to learn from success. I’ve learned more from my mistakes.” Astronout Roberta Bondar stated, “Exploration is not something you retire from. It is part of one’s life ethic.” Gordie Howe said, “I’m really just a lucky old farm boy. All I ever wanted to do was stick around for a while.” These are some great examples of Canadian wisdom!
Ask the average person where they can find wisdom and they will suggest any number of places – in the writings of the great minds, in philosophy or psychology, in the latest guru or spiritual leader. In fact, there may be some wisdom in these things. But in them is not ultimate wisdom. Job, the ancient man of God, who suffered through more than most of us can imagine, discovered the true source of wisdom. In Job 28:12-13 he says this: “where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding dwell? No mortal comprehends its worth; it cannot be found in the land of the living.” The source of wisdom is God Himself and He has revealed His wisdom in His Word, the Bible. The principles it lays down are based on God’s wisdom. As the Creator, He knows the human condition better than anyone else, and we are wise to heed what the Source of all wisdom counsels. What wisdom have you discovered in God’s Word lately? How has it impacted your life for good?
These have been words from the heart.
