Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Perseverance
Farah Alibay is a Canadian on the team that in April 2021 landed the Canadian developed Perseverance probe on Mars. She directed the first flight on a planet other than Earth. In an interview from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, she told the National Post, “In the past two months, I’ve been part of the team that landed a rover on Mars, explored that area of Mars, dropped a helicopter on Mars and now been part of the team that flew that helicopter on another planet.”

As we live our lives, and experience more and more the good and bad that life brings our way, we can start to feel the weight of all that we have lived through. After a while, it can feel like we have the weight of the world on our backs. For many, this becomes a burden too much to bear. Is there any antidote to this? Over and over again the Bible calls us to cast all our burden upon Jesus. When we do, we find that the burdens fall away, and we are free to live the life He has for us. The author of Hebrews writes this in Hebrews 12:1-2: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy that was set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Cast your burdens on Jesus, and run with perseverance today.
These have been words from the heart.
