…and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people. Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. They were delighted and agreed to give him money. He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.

Betray

Although Canada is surrounded by three oceans, there is not a single deep-sea ship flying the Canadian flag. But eighty years ago, Canada had the fourth-largest merchant fleet in the world. carrying cargoes to and from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, New Zealand, Murmansk, Russia and the Far East. Back in 2004, Cinema Politica produced the film “Betrayed: The Story of the Canadian Merchant Seaman’s Union.” The movie tells the story of the little-known struggle to save Canada’s merchant fleet and the livelihood of merchant seamen.

There is no more painful an act than that of betrayal. To have a friend or family member turn on you always leads to heartbreak and a broken relationship. Sadly, this happens regularly these days to many who come to faith in Jesus from non-Christian religions. They are expelled from their families, their villages, and in some cases, their country. I have met many of these amazing brothers and sisters and they humble me. They understand more than we do what Jesus went through when one of those closest to Him, Judas, betrayed Him and handed Him over to the Romans. Luke 22:2-6 tells the sad tale: “…and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people. Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. They were delighted and agreed to give him money. He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.” God forbid that we ever betray our Saviour.

These have been words from the heart.
