Words from the Heart for Wednesday March 25th, 2020
Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”
John 6:28-29 (NKJV)
The Work of God
When thinking of the highest-paying jobs in Canada, these career paths may come to mind: physician, surgeon, dentist, pharmacist, and optometrist. Although it is true that these are some of the highest-paying jobs, they may not be the most attainable or even the most in-demand. Jobs that have the greatest potential for high salaries and demand include healthcare, human services, business and finance, travel and tourism, technology, education, skilled trades and legal. In the largest cities in Canada, health care managers are among the highest-paid.
As soon as I was old enough to get a job, my parents saw that I went to work. My first job, at 17, was delivering prescriptions for my dad, who worked at a pharmacy in Thunder Bay. I’ve not missed working a day since then. Our culture encourages people to work – after all, the Bible says that if a man will not work, he will not eat. And we all love to eat. The challenge is that we have a difficult time believing that there are some things that are free – including a relationship with our Creator God. The Bible says that the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ. But surely we have to do something to earn or deserve the gift! If that was true, it would hardly be a gift. Jesus speaks into all of this in John 6:28-29: “Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” The only work we have to do is believe and trust God through faith in Jesus. Have you?
These have been words from the heart.
