For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.

Expressed Through Love

Although Article 19 of the United Nations Universal Declaration on Human Rights proclaims that everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression, many countries have laws that censor or limit certain types of expression, including speech that incites violence and hatred. In Canada, various laws impose restrictions on the freedom of expression guaranteed by section 2 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. For instance, under the Criminal Code such actions as defamatory libel, counselling suicide, perjury and fraud are prohibited.

The foundation of our walk with Jesus is faith. It is by faith in Christ that our sins are washed away, and our redemption is appropriated. It is by faith we walk daily with Him and experience His blessings. Every time we pray, we do so with the faith that God is listening and caring for us. Every time we sing songs of praise and worship we do so in faith. We understand all of this, but there is more. Paul writes this in Galatians 5:5-6: “For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.” Our entire lives as followers of Jesus are founded on faith in Him, but it is proven by how we live out our faith in our daily lives. Our faith is real when we walk in love among a world filled with hatred, war, and horrific events that fill the news. Followers of Jesus shine as light in a world that desperately needs to experience His love, grace and redemption.

These have been words from the heart.
