Words from the Heart for Wednesday June 26th, 2019
You who love the Lord, hate evil! He protects the lives of his godly people and rescues them from the power of the wicked. Light shines on the godly, and joy on those whose hearts are right.
Psalm 97:10-11 (NLT)
Light Shines on the Godly
Mathew Evans is one of two Canadians who developed and patented an incandescent light bulb, on July 24, 1874, five years before Edison’s U.S. patent on the device. Evans, from Toronto, and his friend Henry Woodward, made the light bulb by sending electricity through a filament made of carbon. The two men had patented it but did not have enough money to develop their invention, so they sold their US patent and the right to the Canadian patent, to Edison for US$5,000.
There is a lot of darkness in our world. I don’t mean physically. Sin continues to control the lives and thinking of many in our day. It seems that the powers of darkness too often have driven away the light. But this is impossible. It is always light that drives away darkness. Listen to what Psalm 97:10-11 says: “You who love the Lord, hate evil! He protects the lives of his godly people and rescues them from the power of the wicked. Light shines on the godly, and joy on those whose hearts are right.” Evil is always with us, tugging at us to enter its clutches. But those of us who love the Lord recognize this and His light in us not just protects us from the darkness but helps us bring light to this sin filled world. Jesus said to those of us who love Him that we are the light of the world. How have you brought light into the dark recesses of your world? How have you shown the love of Jesus to those who are living in the fear of sin and shame? Push back the darkness. Hate what is evil and enjoy the joy of sins forgiven.
These have been words from the heart.
