Words from the Heart for Wednesday June 19th, 2019
…We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done.
Psalm 78:4 (NIV)
Telling the Next Generation
The Great Depression, the civil rights movement, the rise of the smart phone — society has experienced drastic changes over the years, shaping culture for generations. There are six living generations in Canada, each with its own set of values, attitudes and roles, according to Jean Twenge, author of Generation Me. She says, “These days there is good hard data on how generations differ. Millennials are more likely to believe in a work-life balance and don’t want to work too hard. Baby Boomers are likely to stay at their jobs for years.”
It has always been true that the Gospel is just one generation away from extinction. That isn’t to say that the Lord will allow that to happen. He told His disciples that He will build His church and the gates of Hell cannot stand against him. But it is also true that God has no grandchildren. It is our responsibility to pass the Good News of the Gospel on to the next generation. Psalm 78:4 says, “…We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done.” I have a friend who says that she is a follower of Jesus today because of the many times her father shared with the family what God was going in his life that day. She says that he never missed an opportunity to tell his children the blessing of God. That ought to be the case in the life of every follower of Jesus. Who have you shared with today what God has been doing in your life recently? Tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord.
These have been words from the heart.
