Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

Psalm 119:105 (NIV)

A Lamp and a Light

A 15-year-old girl in Canada has invented a flashlight that only needs the warmth of the hand to turn on. Back in 2013, Ann Makosinski, a high school junior in Victoria, British Columbia, was trying to think of a way to harvest untapped energy when she was inspired to make the flashlight. Her project objective was to create a flashlight that ran solely off the heat of the hand. That objective was accomplished when she discovered Peltier tiles, which produce electricity when one side of the tile is heated and the other is cooled.

Flashlights are not as common as they used to be, what with flashlight apps on cell phones now. But in spite of a lighted world, there are still times when we need special light, or the flashlight apps wouldn’t be as popular as they are. In a spiritual sense, light is needed in our world now more than ever. There is a spiritual darkness that is creeping across the Western world as people turn their backs on Jesus and search elsewhere for the peace that only He can give. As usual, the Bible is so applicable to life in our day. The Psalmist writes in Psalm 119:105: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” As we live our lives day by day for Jesus, we need the light that His word gives us to walk in victory. In this world of spiritual darkness, His word helps us to maneuver successfully through each day, seeing where the Lord is leading and giving us the hope of His presence with us. If you are going through a dark time, you need His word more than ever. Take time to read it and pray through it today.

These have been words from the heart.
