I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

Glorify Christ

Canada’s Olympic athletes work hard to bring glory to our country on the largest international stage. No athlete has glorified Canada more than Joannie Rochette. Rochette’s mom arrived in Vancouver to watch her daughter compete, and died of a heart attack two days before Rochette’s competition began. Despite the tragedy, Rochette chose to compete at the Games, in honour of her mother. There wasn’t a dry eye in the country when she took to the ice, and she won the bronze medal for her efforts.

The world has its heroes. Present day, they are usually involved in the entertainment field, but sometimes they are veterans, or business leaders, or techies. The Kingdom of God has heroes as well, and it might surprise you to learn who they are. Romans 8:18 says “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” The true heroes in the Kingdom of God are those who have stood firm in spite of persecution and suffering. There are many of them in our world today. Never before in the history of Christianity have so many been persecuted simply because they love Jesus and want to share His love with others. Like the apostle Paul, they know that all they are suffering right now doesn’t compare to the glory that will be theirs when Jesus is revealed. Through their suffering, they are glorifying Christ, knowing that one day they will hear the words of Jesus “well done, good and faithful servant.” In that, they glory. Living in that expectation, they are able to stand strong in their faith. We are called to pray for them and not to forget them.

These have been words from the heart.
