…so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.

Happy Canada Day! In a world where so many live with conflict, hunger, and poverty, we are blessed to live in a peaceful country with a social safety net. But many in our beautiful country have no hope of eternity and live without the peace and joy that only Jesus offers. Those of us who follow Christ are called to live in such a way that we earn the respect of our non-Christian neighbours. Paul would write this in 1 Thessalonians 4:12: “…so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.” Paul connects our daily conduct with our witness. The way we work, the way we speak, the way we carry ourselves in ordinary moments — these things preach sermons long before we ever open our mouths. People may not read their Bibles, but they read our lives every day. To “walk properly” means to live honourably, with integrity and quiet strength. It means paying our bills, keeping our word, loving our family, showing up when we say we will. Your quiet obedience may be the very thing God uses to draw someone to Himself.

These have been words from the heart.
