To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy
Jude 1:24 NIV
The book Fifty Years the Queen was published in 2002 to celebrate her Golden Jubilee. It recounts her amazing life as Canada and the Commonwealth celebrated the 50th Anniversary of her accession to the throne. According to the website where the book is still available for purchase, “Elizabeth II is a figure whose faultless devotion to duty flourishes in an age of individual self-gratification. Endowed with high spirits and a great sense of humour, she at the same time carries out her duties with unfailing dignity and decorum.”
None of us are faultless. We all know that. We have all done things we regret, things that we know have disappointed the Lord, ourselves and others. Things we wish we could take back. The enemy uses these things to defeat us, causing fear to rise within us. Is there any help? Listen to what Jude writes in Jude 1:24: “To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy.” How is it possible that God is able to keep us from stumbling and to present us faultless before Him? In a word – Jesus. Through Jesus’ sacrificial death on a Roman cross, He has provided that way out. By His death and resurrection, Jesus offers to all who repent of their sins and put their faith in Him a complete cleansing of sin and the presence of the Holy Spirit to empower us to live a godly life. Our role is to keep our eyes on Him and turn from the temptation that so often comes our way. And when we do fail, and repent, He cleanses us again.
These have been words from the heart.
