With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the Lord: “He is good; his love toward Israel endures forever.” And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.

The Foundation

The foundation of Canada’s economy has been transforming since the early 20th century. With the growth of manufacturing, mining and service sectors Canada’s largely rural economy has become an urbanized, industrial one. Like many other developed countries, the Canadian economy is dominated by the service industry, which employs about three-quarters of the country’s workforce. Among developed countries, Canada has an unusually important primary sector, of which the forestry and petroleum industries are the most prominent components.  Many towns in northern Canada, where agriculture is difficult, are sustained by nearby mines or sources of timber.

While in Babylon, Solomon’s magnificent Temple had fallen into disrepair. When the people of Israel were allowed to return to their land, they set about to do two things – rebuild the walls of Jerusalem and rebuild the Temple. The work on the Temple got started and it wasn’t long before things were progressing. Ezra 3:11 records “With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the Lord: ‘He is good, his love towards Israel endures forever.’ And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the Lord, because the foundation of the house of God was laid.” When any building is being constructed, the foundation is critical. The entire structure depends on a solid foundation. The Bible tells us that we are a spiritual building when we put our faith and trust in Christ. He becomes the foundation of our entire lives. When we build our lives on Him, our lives will survive all that life sends our way. How are you strengthening the foundation of your life? The best way is to practice the spiritual disciplines of studying God’s word, prayer and fasting.
