Words from the Heart for Wednesday January 20th, 2021
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
1 John 5:14-15 (NIV)
He Hears Us
Astronomers have revealed details of mysterious signals emanating from a distant galaxy, picked up by a telescope in Canada. The precise nature and origin of the blasts of radio waves is unknown. Among the 13 fast radio bursts, known as FRBs, was a very unusual repeating signal, coming from the same source about 1.5 billion light years away. Ingrid Stairs, an astrophysicist from the University of British Columbia said “knowing that there is another suggests that there could be more out there.”
God loves to hear from His people. This is really the heart of the Bible narrative. In the beginning, God walked with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Before sin entered into the world, God and the first people were best of friends, carrying on regular conversations. That all ended with the Fall. The rest of the Bible is God working to restore that intimate relationship. The point is this – God is always ready to hear from us. 1 John 5:14-15 says this: “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” Sin makes us selfish. The grace of God grants us a new nature, by which we long to do the will of God. Our prayer life ought to reflect that new nature and new desire. When we pray according to the will of God, we are given the promise, the assurance, that whatever we ask we will receive. Take time to speak to Jesus today, assured that He is waiting for you to do so.
These have been words from the heart.
