Words from the Heart for Wednesday January 1st, 2020
Therefore, if any one is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (RSV)
You might be surprised at what is created in Canada. Canada is the largest exporter of green lentils in the world—about 1.5 million metric tonnes annually, with 95 per cent of it coming from Saskatchewan. Last year, 6 billion Halls cough drops were sold in the US. But this medicine is a Canadian creation – produced in a factory in Scarborough, Ontario. If you lined them all up, they would circle the equator 3.4 times.
Happy New Year! A brand new year lies ahead, with all the hopes and dreams that it holds. It is a clean slate, and you have an opportunity to shape it any way that you choose. It isn’t very often that this is the case, but it is for you right now. There is a Kingdom of God principle in these statements. Paul wrote this in 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore, if any one is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come.” Just like New Year’s Day, when 2019 is over and 2020 has not yet been lived, when a person repents of their sin and trusts Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord, all the sin that marks their past is washed away and completely eradicated. It is gone forever. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, we stand before God as a brand new person, with a new nature and a new future. When we put our faith in Jesus, He doesn’t just forgive us and cleanse us from our sin, as wonderful as that is. He gives us a brand new nature, and a new desire to live a life that honours Him. Why not start the new year with this new life?
These have been words from the heart.
